All my life, my art has been inspired by natural surroundings. I am constantly drawing on its organic, ever-changing, subtle colours and the beauty to be found in the landscape.
As a child, Hampstead Heath was the first landscape palette I drew on – the changing seasons took me on a journey, from the warm red of the autumn leaves to the lush green of the summer trees, and the long grass in the meadows.
I spent my time absorbed in sketching the landscape and felt there was no place I’d rather be.
Until I went to the Isles of Scilly, where I felt an overwhelming sense of my own insignificance in the face of nature. It was as if I was a spectator trying to absorb all its beauty, its constantly changing weather, its extremes, from the soft warm, sandy beaches to the terrifying, exhilarating rocky landscape.
I’m on a constant journey of discovery.
